The 8th Annual Genesis House Golf Tournament was a very successful fund raiser.
The weather started out iffy; around 7:00 a.m., there were thunderstorms and heavy rain
north and south of the Suntree Country Club. However, the rain held off, and we had a
mostly cloudy, but dry, day. About halfway through play, the sun came out for a while.
Later we had a light sprinkle that lasted only a few minutes. We believe all the
golfers enjoyed the golfing, buffet, and prizes, and they made generous donations
through various raffles and silent auctions. (See photos.)

BB&T Bank Volunteers at Genesis House I. Our newly renovated and decorated basement room in

landscaping is greatly improved, thanks to BB&T volunteers. A group of 20 volunteers
from various BB&T branches worked on improving the landscaping at GH I.
They planted beautiful flowers and shrubbery and put down new mulch. Inside, they
renovated the basement room. They had dry wall and wood flooring installed. They had
the old ceiling fixture removed and replaced with a new ceiling light in the center
of the room. BB&T volunteers painted the walls and ceiling. They purchased new furniture,

7th Annual Genesis House Golf Tournament. Several days before the tournament, the weather forecast was for rain, lightning,
and high winds throughout the day of the event. It did not look good. The night before the tournament
was scheduled, the area was hit with heavy rain and
lightning. We feared the tournament would be washed out. However, around 5 a.m. the skies began to clear and stars were shining! The
weather turned out great! Lots of sunshine and cool the whole day--great golfing weather! The golfers had a good time
and were generous with the various creative and fun ways we provided for them to donate to Genesis House.

the mommies, she was also given the opportunity to obtain 40 inflatable children's
chairs, a box of stuffed animals, children's key chains, scented pens/pencils,
and hundreds of "Entertainment" coupon books--the ones that are sold in public schools

GE Volunteers
along with some of their friends and family

their friends who are the adoptive family of a child of one of our former residents. The resident placed her baby for adoption
about 20 years ago. She died of breast cancer three years ago. Other friends and family of the adoptive family also donated to
the fund after it was determined that they wanted the funds used to build something that our current residents would enjoy and
that would be in memory of the birth-mother (Sunny). The adoptive family and their adopted son worked alongside the GE Volunteers
during the gazebo build. (See photos.)

Festival of Trees. This was the second year that the Junior League of South Brevard (JLSB) invited Genesis House
to participate in their annual Festival of Trees, held at the King Center, Melbourne.

Julie & Wayne Matchett, Bert Swartz, Henny Weis, Cindy Wessel, Mary Allen, Marie Strock,
Dona Guindon, Michele Guindon, Jan Hill, Casey Tharp, Rebecca Henderson and Kyla Allen.
We provided information on Genesis House, sold cookies and car magnets, and auctioned a quilt.
Various volunteers provided the cookies. Melbourne Central Catholic students Lauren, Mirelle,
Monica, and Erin volunteered to support the children's crafts table.
Mary Allen decorated the Genesis House Christmas tree in a seashore theme. The tree was donated
by Dano LoPresti, owner of The Christmas Cottage on New Haven Ave. The decorated tree was given
to the Junior League for their auction.
Kay Shaw, who was visiting from Colorado, stopped by the Genesis House table and looked over our display board and informational brochures. She said
she wanted to buy a wreath for one of the houses, so she took Rebecca, the House Manager at GH II, into the Christmas tree display area and had her pick out
the wreath she wanted. The lady bought the wreath for $75. It now decorates the front door of GH II.

For the Interfaith Workday of Service, a group of volunteers from The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worked to remodel the interior
of the garage (storage room) at GH I. Their State President, J.D. Humphries, stopped by
to help and encourage. FloridaToday sent someone to take pictures and
get information. And someone from the LDS Media came by and did film
interviews with Vonnie and the workers.
It was a really long day, starting at 8 a.m.
and ending at 10:30 p.m. The group ran into problems right away.
Many of the boards were so eaten up by past termite damage that they
had to build structure to attach the new paneling. They did not get to
finish all that they had hoped. The room still needs molding put in
and the vinyl floor needs to be laid. It was a wonderful group,
fun to be around even though the day ran 5 hours longer than planned.
We will try to find another group to complete the work.
Workers were Russell Flamm, Larry Phillips, Mike Witherspoon, Justin Planinz
and family (mom Tracey and daughters Nina and Emilee). Kevin came in to
help get the job finished.
